Former West Ham & current QPR boss Harry Redknapp has stated that Rio Ferdinand rejected the chance to join West Ham, and Spurs, to join him at Loftus Road this summer.
According to good old Harry, Rio had been offered better deals from both London rivals, however decided to take a massive pay cut to link up with former boss Redknapp at QPR, with Harry also stating that his wage demands were ‘incredibly low’.
Well personally I wouldn’t say that £40k a week is low, especially for a player who is 35, and has spent the majority of the last 2/3 seasons on the treatment table, with namely a long term, and by the looks of it incurable, back problem.
This is not sour grapes, I wish Rio all the best, and it is in a way touching that he is back working alongside the man who gave him his introduction into the world of professional football. However Redknapp is always quick to stick the boot in to everybody else, when really, we couldn’t give a monkeys.
If we had of signed Rio there would have been many, well, I believe the majority, of fans slating Big Sam for wasting funds on a player who would have spend most, if not all, of the season watching from the sidelines, and pocketing £40k a week doing so.
As I said, I wish Rio all the best, but I’m pleased we ‘missed out’ on a player, who is simply way past his best, lost his much needed pace, and who’s injury record makes Kieron Dyer look a better buy this summer.
