The club have announced that record signing Andy Carroll has picked up an ankle injury, and we play no part in the clubs pre season tour of New Zealand.
Carroll had been expected to make his first appearance for the club this summer in tonight’s friendly against Wellington Phoenix, however the club have revealed the striker has picked up a ‘sore ankle’ injury, and will miss both matches as a ‘precaution’.
This will no doubt worry many fans who will cast their minds back to last season where Carroll missed the first half of the campaign with a heel injury – however the club have insisted this injury is not related to the previous one, and they fully expect Carroll to be fit for the start of the season in 3 weeks time.
The club announced: ”After assessment by the club’s medical experts, it was decided to let Carroll rest for both games and receive intensive treatment to ensure he is fit for the start of the season.
“The affected area is not in any way associated with the previous injury he successfully overcame towards the end of last season.”
