West Ham are set to enter the transfer market once again and secure the services of a central defender, as the club are already in a personnel crisis after just one match.
James Collins was shown a second yellow card in the opening day defeat against Spurs, and with James Tomkins nursing a hamstring injury, Winston Reid is currently the only recognised central defender available to play against Crystal Palace this Saturday.
It remains to be seen whether the club will go all out to recruit a new central defender this week, or will Sam provide an opportunity for somebody like Dan Potts to fill the gap? With the Irons manager already feeling the heat, he knows it’s vital West Ham pick up three points this weekend, and may opt for experience over youth.
One name being touted by the press is Tottenham’s Michael Dawson, who apparently Allardyce enquired about over the summer.
