One of the ongoing concerns at the club this summer, that has yet to be resolved, is the future of our highly rated centre back Winston Reid.
Reid arrived at Upton Park back in 2010 as an unknown, and did take some time to adapt to the English game. However, over the past 2/3 seasons Reid has developed into one of the Premier Leagues most reliable performers, who’s consistency and cool head have not gone unnoticed by fellow Premier League clubs, namely Arsenal.
It is widely known that Arsene Wenger is a long term admirer of Reid, and the Gunners have been linked numerous times with making a move, however nothing concrete has ever been put forward to West Ham.
We now however find ourselves in a nervy predicament.
Arsenal are now looking more likely than ever to make a move for Reid. They have their own problem with a lack of numbers at the back, and it’s highly likely Wenger will want a player who can slot straight in and knows this league inside out.
And then there’s Winston Reid himself, who has yet to commit his future, even though there is a ‘fantastic offer’ on the table according to David Sullivan. This suggests Reid is holding out for a move.
So is it time to accept that Reid is on his way? & rather than be left short at the back, when no doubt at 11:59pm on transfer deadline day the Arsenal deal will be concluded, we start now finding a replacement?
It’s a difficult one because the club seem confident that Reid will commit, however it is clear that the player wants the move, and who can really blame him?
If it does happen then the fans will have nothing but gratitude to show Winston for his outstanding performances for the club, and will wish him well. There is of course though, that glimmer of hope, that he sticks around and leads us to the Olympic Stadium.
