‘I had a problem with Rodgers’

Stewart Downing has spoken of how he had problems with previous manager Brendan Rodgers, and was not impressed of how the manager spoke out publicly questioning the midfielders work rate.

Downing, who is reviving his career well at Upton Park following a move from Liverpool in 2013, has criticised his former boss for belittling him and felt the criticism was unjust.

“Rodgers was the one manager I had problems with. I found it very difficult and the way it was handled – to come out in the papers and basically slag off your player by saying you don’t try – that was poor really,” said Downing.
