Irons plot to hijack defender deal

It had been reported that West Ham are making a move to hijack Manchester City defender Matija Nastastic’s £10m move to Schalke last night.

The Serbian international, who signed for City in a £15m deal in 2012, has been edging closer to an exit from the Premier League champions after being frozen out by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Talks with Schalke have been ongoing, however a deal has not yet been reached, and West Ham are hoping to weigh in with a £10m bid that will hopefully sway the highly rated defender to remain in England.

West Ham are bracing themselves for bids for Winston Reid this week, and are keen to have a defender lined to to automatically replace him if Reid departs sooner than this summer.
