West Ham 1-1 Everton ( West Ham win 9-8 on penalties)
In what will go down as one of the classic FA Cup ties at Upton Park in recent years, West Ham overcame our bogey team Everton in a thrilling match – that had to be decided via a penalty shootout.
The game can only be described as ‘even’. As boring as that sounds, it’s what it was. West Ham and Everton were at loggerheads from the off, and it simply was hard to call which way the game would go.
But West Ham were the first to score, thanks to an excellent finish from the impressive Enner Valencia. The £12 Summer signing slotted home in true striker style, sending Upton Park into chaos.
However, in typical West Ham fashion, instead of seeing of the match, it in fact became one that even the most experienced ( and scarred) fans could not predict.
Everton were reduced to 10 men, they equalised, extra time arrived, Everton lead… And then the real drama unfolded.
Tomkins & Noble had a row, West Ham equalised.. And it was penalties. Yes, penalties. The one thing West Ham never succeed at.
Yet we did. 9-8 ( missing just once) with Adrian not only the hero between the posts, but the hero behind the ball.
He scored the winner too, leading West Ham to the fourth round. An unbelievable match, with a shocking result to match.
Fourth round, here we come!
