West Bromwich Albion 4-0 West Ham
Today will go down as a dark day for West Ham as the club were simply humiliated in the 5th round tie against West Brom, which saw the team roll over and get hammered by a club battling relegation.
As I write this I struggle to think of anything positive in those 90 minutes of football just witnessed. It was appalling. Shocking. And like all West Ham fans, I am stunned by how poor we were.
The opening five minutes were as good as it got for our fantastic loyal fans, who battled up the motorway following terrible traffic this morning, and sung loud and proud throughout the annihilation handed out by a very average West Brom side.
Those opening five minutes West Ham actually gave us fans hope they were up for this tie, and all had dreams of Wembley in their minds. Then, suddenly, just like that, we fell apart.
The shape was non existent, the passing woeful, midfield were absent, even the usually lively Sakho looked disinterested. And sadly, it never improved.
The team fell apart, and so did the scoreline, as on the 20 minute mark the hosts took the lead via a tap in from Ideye following some woeful defending.
Many like me hoped this would kick the Irons into life, but sadly it did the opposite. The players hid, and West Brom pushed on to score more – and on 42 minutes they got what they deserved.
Morrisons strike put West Brom 2-0 up, and when half time arrived, many were expecting a very different West Ham side to appear in the second half – but it wasn’t. In fact it was the same eleven players. No changes.
Some how the second half was even worse than the first. The team were out of ideas, had no imagination, fight, or organisation. It was a shambles.
The third West Brom goal came on 57 minutes by some unbelievably cowardly defending, as Ideye was gifted a free header that was simply far too easy to score.
It was then that West Ham players looked shell shocked, and wanted to run and hide. Our fans however continued to sing for their beloved football club. Amazing.
The game was over. Adding in the fact Morgan Amalfitano was send off minutes after being subbed on, and that West Brom grabbed a fourth on 72 minutes, only put the icing on what was a horrendous performance, and one that will take some time to forget.
